Jan van Hövell

KLABU

Jan van Hövell. Team captain of Klabu (‘club’ in Swahili), his community-directed sports club which provides adults and children with the opportunity to exercise on a regular basis. In 2019, the first club was established in the Kalobeyei refugee settlement in Kenia.

Jan van Hövell, who now earns a living being a DJ on weekends is the same Jan van Hövell who only three years prior was working as a lawyer for De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek on the Zuidas, drawing up contracts for merges and acquisitions. But also the same Jan, who, whilst working at the Zuidas, watched the Olympic Games and saw the Refugee Olympic Team make its first appearance. This brought him back to his time as an eighteen year old intern at the United Nations in Ghana, where he played football at a refugee camp. He quit his job and reconnected with the UNHCR. The rest is history. And we are proud to announce that Jan is part of The Present Movement. Welcome to the klabu!

Jan also spoke at one of our meetups. You can read the report here.
