Since the 1st of February 2018, Berendhas been the director of Foundation Takecarebnb, which was founded as a civic initiative in 2015. The foundation arranges temporary host families for refugees. Berend has worked in various positions for different refugee organisations in the Netherlands, London and Brussels, including the Centraal Orgaan opvangAsiezoekers (COA), the European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE), VluchtelingenWerk Nederland and New Dutch Connections. Through his new job he wants to explore how the unique concept of Takecarebnb can be further used to connect refugees and facilitate the successful integration of new arrivals into Dutch society.
