When Anya heard about In My Back Yard, a new initiative founded by Lian Priemus, she immediately wanted to take part in it. With her own background as a refugee from former Yugoslavia, she personally knew the importance of establishing new contacts in a foreign country. Together with Lian, the duo launched thirteen neighbourhood groups (20-30 persons) in Amsterdam and raised 200 euros to further expand their initiative. The groups consist of one-third of holders of a residence permit and two-thirds 'Amsterdammers'. Per neighbourhood, IMBY organises a whole range of events, to boost integration and contact. Because we all know: a good neighbour is worth more than a distant friend. Anya and Lian took the TPM-stage at meetup number five.
